Help Us Out

The Powell County Democratic Party is always looking for people to get involved. Some people help out with money, some help out with events and canvassing, and others help out behind the scenes. Here are some ways you can help us out:

Canvassing

canvassing.jpgCanvassing involves going door-to-door in a specific neighborhood or area and speaking with voters. You can canvass individually or with a friend. You can work for as long as you want and whenever you want. Canvassing is a great way to help out the cause and really connect with your neighbors on a personal level. For more information on canvassing, you can contact us. If you would like to canvass for a particular campaign, we can help out with that too. Just let us know who you’d like to canvass for and we can put you in touch with someone from that campaign.

Phone Banking

phone-banking.jpgPhone banking is similar to canvassing, but you use your phone instead of going door-to-door. This is a great option for someone who has trouble getting around or who keeps odd hours. For more information on phone banking, you can contact us. If you would like to phone bank for a particular campaign, we can help out with that too. Just let us know who you’d like to phone bank for and we can put you in touch with someone from that campaign.

Events

events.jpgEvents are a great way to really generate buzz and excitement. Or events are typically held in the late summer and fall. Some are relatively small while others are massive undertakings. You can find a list of our events on our Facebook page. For more information on how you can help us out at events, pleaseΒ contact us.

Social Media

Social MediaWe can all help out on social media by following 3 simple rules:

  1. Be Nice – We see this on social media all the time. A simple, benign post gets heated at the drop of a hat. This causes everyone involved to entrench themselves in their positions and leaves them uninterested in having a constructive debate. Being nice can sometimes help lead a wayward person to see your point quicker than being mean or condescending can. Sometimes,Β people online are mean just to be mean. These are called Trolls and should be ignored since all they’re looking for is attention.
  2. Do Your Research – We all want to be first, but being first can hurt your position more than it can help if you turn out to be wrong. This can cause your credibility to suffer. Instead of firing back immediately when someone says something, remember that an online conversation is different from a verbal one. You can respond at your convenience and on your timeline, not their’s.
  3. Know when to walk away – Sometimes people are just seeking an echo chamber and aren’t willing to here arguments that challenge their beliefs. These people aren’t ready to be engaged with, they’re just venting. Walk away, take some time, then you may want to reach back out to the person privately, outside of the eyes of the public.

Donate

DonateEverything costs money. From signs and shirts, to event spaces and food, to advertising. We can always use money to help make our events better, our advertisements reach farther, or our signs larger. For us, every little bit helps. So if you can donate $5 or $500, we would greatly appreciate it. You can donate at our events, at our meetings, or through our secure online donation portal. For more information on donations, pleaseΒ contact us.
