
Overview
The Powell County Democrats host an annual chili cook-off.
Why: To raise money for the Powell County Democratic Party and to raise awareness for the issues in the upcoming election
Cost: $10 to enter your chili, free to show up and eat!
What to expect: Free chili, drinks and snacks, and a live auction
Contest Rules
- The judges are the people who eat your chili.
- Each contestant bring a jar to receive donations.
- The audience donates money to the jar of the contestants.
- People may donate as many times and to as many jars as they wish.
- The winners will be awarded based on the total cash collected in their jar.
- The payout will be as follows:
- 1st place – Contestant keeps 75% of their jar
- 2nd place – Contestant keeps 50% of their jar
- 3rd place – Contestant keeps 25% of their jar
Contestant Checklist
- Required
- No more than 6 quarts of chili.
- Money Jar.
- List of ingredients.
- Serving spoon.
- Hair nets and gloves for the workers at your area.
- Optional
- Decorations for your station.
Contestant Information
- You can use any ingredients you wish in your chili. The only catch is that you must list ALL the ingredients on a sign near your chili pot for anyone that may have food allergies.
- You will be allotted the use of one plug at your station for such purposes as keeping your chili warm. All chili must be cooked before you come in the building.
- You should bring a container (like an empty pickle jar) to keep the donations you receive for your chili.
- You are limited to 6 quarts of chili.
- Crackers, spoons, and bowls will be provided. You must provide any other condiments (like cheese, onions, hot sauce, etc.).
- No cooking may be performed on site. All chili must be prepared before you arrive.
